A large section of the city that stretches from the banks of Lake Ceresio to the Tassino park is being planned for redevelopment by the Municipality of Lugano.
The goal is to redefine three large areas with high landscape value and create new public spaces to connect physically and symbolically the different urban zones.
On January 30, 2023, a selection procedure for interdisciplinary groups was launched with the publication of the call for applications (SIA 142).
The redesigning of urban spaces (which includes the lakefront, the pier, Piazza Luini and two public parks) aims to manage the complexity of areas with different uses and topographical features and to obtain a number of routes and semantics to strengthen the city's identity, the quality of its places and the sentiment of sociality.
The new spatial configuration must ensure that all citizens have equal access to the territory, which in turn will enable everyone to actively participate in community life.
Therefore, the project's promoter decided to include the Design for All principles in the call, encouraging participants to develop them in their projects.
