The Municipality of Massagno has launched a design call for proposals to renovate the buildings that have previously hosted the Electric Company of Massagno, AEM, and to rearrange the adjacent areas for collective use within this important urban sector.
The project call aims to rehabilitate this area, through the creation of a new public space, to be used for local associations and administrative activities.
In particular, the AEM industrial hall is conceived as a large multi-functional space, intended for public events (small concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions, etc.)
Such goals require the need to ensure universal accessibility. The call for proposals, therefore, promotes the application of the Design for All principles, whose utterance is included among the criteria for judgement (for more details: p. 17 and 19 of the call).
In addition, Caterina Cavo, Head of the Design for All Competence Centre, participated in the selection of projects as a consultant for the jury.
The incorporation of Universal Design concepts in a call for proposals in architecture in line with SIA 142 law is a significant step towards inclusion.
