The Ghitello mill upgrade project in Breggia Gorges Park (Ticino) is designed to enhance the old construction and promote learning and knowledge of the region through a new educational itinerary.
The park's geological landscape is presented in sequence through eight stations located around the historic complex.
The stones (moltrasio limestone, ammonitico rosso, rosso ad aptici , majolica, scaglia bianca, flysch, conglomerate, calcareous tufa), disposed along the itinerary to represent their natural stratigraphy, are placed on particular metal supports. Each station is made with two "T" pillars, coupled to support a vertical information panel and a plate shaped "C” located underneath. The latter is designed to display the various rock samples and captions.
The project has a “for All” nature as it is conceived to provide everyone - with or without visual impairments - with an equally enjoyable experience. Regardless of the disability, the stone covered by the metal plate can be recognized by touching it first and then by seeing it. The information concerning the type of rock comes written in relief and together with braille alphabet.
The rocks are positioned at circa 100 cm high above the ground, thus facilitating easy learning by people of small stature or in wheelchairs.
